Lions Youth Tournament Preview

Lions Youth Tournament Preview

As a natural progression from the 2014 successes displayed across Junior, Women’s and University football, the Lions are now straying into the uncharted territory that is Youth Football.

There were two truths that led to the inevitable expansion of the Lions programme:
1- We have an unparalleled number of educated and dedicated coaches.
2- The market for football in the Greater Birmingham area is vast.
During the first few weeks following the Lions Youth inception, only a handful of Birmingham’s keenest 14 to 17 year-old footballers attended.  However, due to the effort and enthusiasm of the Youth attendees, linked with the ability to train with the leaders of the Junior programme, the infectious fun of Lions football soon spread.
Having progressed from strength to strength, the Youth team has 18 registered players with at least another 2 joining in the next fortnight.  Despite their great talent, this batch of Youth players are all rookies to the sport, on the verge of their first taste of competitive football.   This baptism of fire will be provided by three titans of Midlands Football; Sandwell Steelers, Birmingham Bulls and Chester Romans.
Although expectations are high for this team, the key objectives, as always, are Work Ethic, Effort and Enthusiasm. If they stay true to these values, this weekend, when the Youth Team dons the Lion on their chest, they will cement their legacy in Lions history.
