The Birmingham Lions Women’s American Football team, since their (January 2014) inception, have already achieved a great deal; please allow us to share with you our successes to date, of which rightfully, we feel very proud:

2016

  • BAFA British Sapphire Champions, honours incl. country’s number one ranked Offense and Defense
  • First team to exclusively support BAFA’s inaugural Welsh Women’s Football Development Day
  • First team to exclusively support another club’s Development Day (Staffordshire Surge Women and Youth)
  • Receipt of BAFCA Head Coach of the Year nomination
  • Only team to receive exclusive invitation to the Detroit Lions’ Barry Sanders Coaching Clinic
  • Leading representative of club players selected for BAFA’s County Diamond Series (21 players, honours incl. 4 captains)
  • 8 players invited to attend BAFA’s inaugural Skills Camp as ‘Student Coaches’
  • 4 players qualified as Level 1 Coaches

2015

  • BAFA British Sapphire Champions; honours incl. country’s number one ranked Offense and Defense; Southern Conference Winners
  • Sports Team of the Year, Birmingham Mail & Post Sports Awards
  • Sports Club of the Year, Redbrick (Official Student Newspaper of the University of Birmingham)
  • 16 Lions, 2 Coaches and 1 Team Assistant selected to represent Great Britain; honours incl. 4 captains and 3 MVPs
  • First UK women’s side to field two 5 aside tackle teams in national competition
  • First UK women’s side to play 9 aside tackle football in Europe (and win)
  • First UK women’s side to trial 7 aside tackle football for BAFA
  • NFL UK Play 60 deliverers

2014

  • Hands Up Funding Award Winners, University of Birmingham Alumni
